About and approach

Independent.Evidence-led.On your side.

Support Audit exists to find the gaps in resident support files before anyone else does, and to show teams exactly how to close them. Here is who we are and how we work.

In short

Who is behind Support Audit?

Support Audit is an independent audit service for supported housing in England, founded by Jamie McCollin. It combines hands-on experience of auditing resident support files with software that checks every file the same way, and an auditor who reviews every finding and sets every grade.

The founder

Built by someone who knows housing from the inside, and knows your staff are stretched.

Jamie McCollin, founder

Jamie's background spans housing, property management and compliance, with qualifications across property and health and safety. He has hands-on experience auditing resident support files in supported exempt accommodation, working with managing agents to improve their recording after each audit.

He started Support Audit because the same gaps kept appearing, and because providers kept asking the same question: what does good actually look like? Every report we write answers that question.

What we stand for

Four principles in every audit.

Evidence first

Every finding names the document and the date. If something isn't in the file, we record it as not seen. Nothing is assumed and nothing is invented.

Constructive

The point is improvement. Every issue comes with an example of what good looks like, and strengths are named as specifically as gaps.

A person decides

Software flags. An experienced auditor reviews every finding, sets every grade and explains the reason for it.

Confidential

Resident records are special category data. We handle them that way from transfer to deletion.

Our method

How software and auditors share the work.

Software makes audits consistent and thorough. People make them fair. Here is exactly who does what.

What the software does

  • Checks every file against the same checklist
  • Flags missing signatures, dates and documents
  • Calculates review due dates and weekly support hours
  • Matches session notes to support goals
  • Proposes a rating for the auditor to review

What the auditor does

  • Reviews every flag and every judgement
  • Reads the file as a whole, in context
  • Sets the final grade and writes the reason
  • Names the strengths and the next steps
  • Talks it through with your team
How we write

Plain, specific and fair.

Our reports are written to be used by support workers, not filed by managers.

  • UK English, written the way an experienced auditor speaks
  • Every issue names the document, the date and what is wrong
  • Every issue includes a short example of what good looks like
  • Strengths drawn from the documents, never generic praise
  • Gaps stated plainly: "No session notes evidence work on this goal"
Data protection

How we handle resident data.

Resident support files contain special category data under UK GDPR. These commitments apply to every audit.

01

Agreed before anything is shared

A data processing agreement and retention period are agreed with you before any files are sent.

02

Only what is needed

We request only the files and the review period in scope, and nothing else.

03

Secure transfer and storage

Files are shared through a secure transfer and stored with access limited to the audit team.

04

Deleted on schedule

Resident data is deleted at the end of the agreed retention period, and we confirm it in writing.

05

Not used to train AI

Resident data is used only to deliver your audit. It is never used to train AI models.

06

Registered

Support Audit is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office. Registration number: [ICO number].
